LEGO® 6384 Police Station Review — Rebuilding a Childhood Memory

My personal set including Police Car (6623)

Some LEGO® sets aren’t just toys — they’re pieces of your own story. For me, that’s the LEGO 6384 Police Station. My parents somehow managed to find it for me back in the 1980s, even though LEGO was hard to come by in my home country back then. I’ll always be grateful for how they made those small miracles happen.

Over time, I lost a few pieces — the way every kid does — but recently I decided to hunt them down online. Brick by brick, I rebuilt this set completely for the first time in nearly 30 years. Seeing it whole again on my shelf brought back a flood of memories, the kind that remind you why you fell in love with LEGO in the first place.

Quick Facts

  • Set Number: 6384
  • Name: Police Station
  • Theme: Town
  • Year Released: 1983
  • Piece Count: 375
  • Minifigures: 4
  • Original MSRP: Around $30 USD

What’s in the Box & Build Flow

The build is pure 1980s LEGO charm — a simple two-story police station, a small helicopter, a patrol car, and a motorbike, all sitting neatly on a green baseplate. The helicopter pad isn’t on the roof but positioned right next to the main building, giving the whole layout a believable “town block” feel.

Rebuilding it reminded me how clear and satisfying those classic instructions were. The printed “POLICE” bricks, the little jail cell with its barred door, and the tiny desk upstairs all came together quickly but beautifully. There’s no staircase or balcony — and yet the open design makes it easy to imagine the minifigs going about their work.

Techniques & Details

Technically, it’s a very simple set — and that’s exactly its strength. No advanced angles or hidden tricks, just clean lines and bright colors. The blue-and-white police color scheme still looks sharp today, and the red and gray accents give it that perfect early-’80s contrast.

Display & Play Value

As a kid, this set was the headquarters for every chase and getaway I could dream up. The vehicles fit perfectly on the roads, and the open design made it easy to swoop in the helicopter, park the car, and stage a “jailbreak” all in one afternoon.

Now, rebuilt and complete again, it’s more than just playable — it’s a beautiful display piece. It sits wonderfully alongside sets like 6390 Main Street and 6392 Airport, completing that early LEGO Town cityscape.

Who It’s For

If you love vintage LEGO or you grew up during the classic Town era, this set is pure nostalgia. It’s also great for anyone who enjoys rebuilding or restoring older sets — the kind that remind you how much LEGO can do with just a few hundred pieces and a lot of imagination.

Pros & Cons

  • Pros: Classic 1980s color scheme and design, printed elements, great play value, perfect for nostalgic rebuilds.
  • Cons: Minimal interior detail, no stairs, simple helicopter.

Final Thoughts

Rebuilding LEGO 6384 Police Station after decades reminded me why I fell in love with the hobby in the first place. It’s simple, bright, and full of heart. Every brick feels like a memory of long afternoons spent building on the floor, completely lost in imagination.
