When LEGO® revealed the Eldorado Fortress (10320), I knew I couldn’t skip it. I never owned the original 1989 version, though I remember staring at it in catalogs as a kid. Building this new version felt like finally getting to experience that dream set for real — and it absolutely delivered.
Now that it’s proudly displayed on my shelf, I can say this: it’s everything I imagined the original would be — only better, sturdier, and full of personality.

The Build Experience
The modular layout makes construction smooth and satisfying, with each tower and dock connecting neatly. I loved the small storytelling touches — the crane, the jail, the treasure, and the governor’s quarters. The whole thing feels alive.
Display Value
It’s a striking display piece with bright white walls, yellow highlights, and a vivid blue base. I’ve added an old pirate minifigure from my childhood for fun — and I can’t wait to add the LEGO® 31109 Pirate Ship next to it for the full pirate-versus-fortress look.
Comparisons
Even without nostalgia for the original, this version stands strong on its own. For larger displays, pair it with the LEGO® Ideas 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay or the LEGO® 31109 Pirate Ship.
Pros & Cons
- Pros: Gorgeous update, modular build, fantastic colors, rich detail, and pure display joy.
- Cons: Could use one or two more minifigs; dock area feels a bit compact.
Final Thoughts
The Eldorado Fortress (10320) might be a remake, but for builders like me who never owned the original, it feels brand new — a beautiful mix of nostalgia and modern design. It’s satisfying to build, great to display, and an absolute must-have for any LEGO Pirates fan.
