About Bricks vs Blocks

Welcome to Bricks vs Blocks — a space where creativity, nostalgia, and imagination come together through the world of LEGO®.

Like many lifelong fans, I grew up surrounded by LEGO bricks — though not in abundance. Growing up overseas, LEGO sets were rare and often difficult to find. The few sets I owned became treasures, and with no access to extra pieces or online building instructions, I had to rely entirely on my imagination.

I used to spend hours flipping through LEGO catalogs, staring at the pictures of sets I couldn’t get — trying to reverse-engineer how they were built just by studying the images. With only a handful of mismatched pieces, I’d experiment until I could recreate castles, cars, and spaceships that looked “close enough” to the real thing.

Looking back, I realize those moments trained my brain to think like an engineer and problem solver. That same mindset — breaking things down, understanding how they fit together, and rebuilding them in new ways — became the foundation for my career in software development, where I often need to reverse-engineer how programs work and reconstruct them from the ground up.

It was pure creativity — born out of limitation — and it shaped the way I see LEGO to this day.

Years later, after the birth of my daughter, I rediscovered that same magic. Watching her curiosity and joy while snapping pieces together reminded me exactly why I loved LEGO in the first place. What started as a few shared builds became a full-blown passion project — and ultimately evolved into Bricks vs Blocks: a place to celebrate creativity, rediscovery, and the joy of building without boundaries.

The Story Behind the Name

Why Bricks vs Blocks?

Because LEGO isn’t just about the bricks — it’s about imagination and reinvention. The name represents the contrast between the bricks I grew up with — limited, reused, and cherished — and the blocks we build with today — modern, colorful, and limitless.

It’s a celebration of creativity through constraint and possibility — the same spirit that drives every builder to say, “I bet I can make that with what I’ve got.”
